How to start a Blog with Bluehost?

Can anyone start new blog using Bluehost? Yes. Great isn't it!

In this tutorial I will teach you how to start a new blog with Bluehost. You can also read the full details at  Review of Bluehost. These steps shall make you create your new blog in 15-30 minutes only.

The 6 easy steps to be followed:

1. Choose Your Hosting PlanGo to Bluehost’s main page (the link opens in a new window so that you can follow). Click on the green button “get started now”. This will take to a page where their various hosting packages as shown in the image below.

You have to choose a plan either the “Starter”, “Plus”, or “Business Pro”. If you are just starting  as a private, choose the “Starter” or “Plus” plan. The difference between the two is that the “Starter” plan allows only one website, and provides you limits on other options like your website space, sub-domains, and email accounts. The “Plus” plan allows unlimited websites, website space, bandwidth, subdomains, email accounts, etc. Also, you get offers worth $150 more in marketing. For this tutorial, I’m choosing the “Plus” plan. However, Choose your plan and Hit “Select” to advance to next level.

2. Pick A Domain Name

Once you decide the plan  it’s time for you to settle on a website name. In the left box that says “new domain”, type a name that you would prefer to be your website name. For instance, my website name is "hostdoing.com" similarly select your domain name. If that name is already registered go for alternatives where nobody has claimed yet. After you type the name, hit the “next” button "outlined in red" as in the image below.

Tips for choosing a domain name

1. Select name that is easy to remember. Let people find it easy to remember catchy and no any confusion.

2. Use ".com" instead of .net, .org, .biz, .info, or others. since it is the most commonly used and people will remember it easier.

3. Shorten your domain name if possible. Some meaning to the text or your blog.

3. Enter Your Account Information

Once successfully choosen a website name hit “next”  button and the screen appears to fill more information about the primary details of “Account Information” like name, address, city/state, email address, etc. Confirm your email address since all receipt and other important information are sent via mail.

4. Enter Your Package Information

In this section fill about  “Package Information”. The  plan that was chosen in the beginning at the primary box. The most cost-effective plan is to buy 36 months (3 years) upfront. However, if you wish to buy hosting only for 1 or 2 years choose a 12 month or 24-month plan. But your cost will go up with couple of dollars per month. Next, you’ve got an array of additional options to simply choose. These include Domain Privacy, Site Backup, Site Lock Security etc., The extra option that is recommended  is “Domain Privacy Protection”. Leave the others unchecked. Now lets see Domain Privacy below.

The “Domain Privacy Protection”  means domain will be shielded from a WHOIS lookup on your site. What is WHOIS lookup?  I’ll attempt to explain it.  When you visit variety of web sites that have a WHOIS lookup like a name with “somesite.com”, If that name is registered by someone and that they don’t have Domain Privacy, then their personal information are shown to the person who is looking at. However ,if you’ve got Domain Privacy and someone does a WHOIS lookup, then it only shows generic made-up information and no other information. See below for an instance.

5. Enter Your Billing Information

Almost there! The last item to do is to fill the “Billing Information”. Fill your payment details, then confirm to see the box that says “I confirm I even have read and complied with the Terms of Service…”. Lastly, hit the green “next” button. It will ask for any upgrades. Skip any upgrades and continue with finalizing your order.

Once all information is given your hosting package is ordered. Congratulations! you have successfully purchased hosting for your new blog. You ought to receive emails at your  email address regarding the URL for your site, and therefore the URL to access your instrument panelKEEP THIS INFO to fill the previous step – Installing WordPress.

6. Installing  WordPress

Lastly, we need to install WordPress on your site. Go to Bluehost’s main page and click on the “login” button in the upper-right. You will see a login screen like the one below:

Enter all the credentials you received in your email. Your domain/username will work for the first field, and then you just need your password. Hit “submit”. Now you will be brought to your Bluehost Control Panel (cpanel). Look for icons that look like the ones shown below and click on any one;

For the primary sectionit will show the URL where WordPress has to be installed. Just leave this at http://www.yoursite.com/ and leave everything after the slash blank.

The second section is going to be where you have to fill some administrative options. Expand the choices if nescessary. Fill within the WordPress site title (you can make it your name like Hostdoing – this will be changed later at any time). Then, come up together with your admin username, admin password, and admin email. Keep the admin email an equivalent because the one you want to check-in for hosting (unless you would like it to be different). Also, for your “Admin Username”, NEVER EVER make your Admin Username be “admin”. Make it something unique and not easy for a guess.

Once that’s done, if there are extra themes or plugins checked, you’ll leave those. Scroll down and accept the terms and hit completely. WordPress will start installing, and once it’s done you ought to see a “Success – Installation complete!” message. After successful  installation  you’ll see a few URL, the most important one is your “Login URL”. This is the URL that you will often log into WordPress. They are often found at http://yourdomain.com/wp-adminattend that URL and check-in together with your WordPress credentials.

Congratulations! Successfully you have purchased your own domain, hosting package, and installed WordPress. All The Best !!
